EMS
The Bloomingdale Fire Protection District No. 1 began Emergency Medical Services in 1972 with the arrival of the first ambulance, a 1972 Ford Van. The District was served by a mostly volunteer force. The first medical personnel were “Advanced First Aiders”. Soon after the District educated some of the personnel as Emergency Medical Technicians or EMT’s. In 1978 the voters of the District gave overwhelming approval to upgrade the District medical service to provide Advanced Life Support care with Paramedics.
Today, the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District is a member of the Northwest Community Hospital Emergancy Medical Services System. The District has three Advanced Life Supprt (ALS) Ambulances. The District also utilizes three Advanced Life Support Engines, that can provide care until the arrival of an Ambulance. The District has 31 Paramedic and 7 EMT’s.
The District transports to three receiving hospitals, Glen Oaks Hospital, Alexian Brothers Medical Center, and Central DuPage Hospital. The condition of the patient and Illinois State law provides guidence as to which hospital a patient can be transported to.
